How to Retrieve Your DUNS Number in Nigeria 2026

Last Updated: July 14, 2026

You registered your DUNS number months or years ago. Now you need it — for a tender, a client request, an app store enrollment — and you can't find it anywhere.

This happens more than you'd think. Here's exactly how to get it back.

Why You Can't Just "Get a New One"

A DUNS number is permanent. Dun & Bradstreet assigns one 9-digit number to your business and it never changes, never expires, and never gets reassigned. You can't apply for a new one if you already have one — D&B will find the existing record and return the same number.

This means retrieval is the only path. The good news: the number still exists in D&B's database. We just need to find it.

Method 1: Search Your Own Records First (Free, 5 Minutes)

Before anything else, check:

  • Your email inbox — D&B sends your DUNS via email when issued. Search for "Dun & Bradstreet", "DUNS", or "dnb.com"
  • Old tender documents or proposals — If you've ever submitted a bid, your DUNS was likely on it
  • Your company website — Some businesses list it in their footer or About page
  • Old vendor registration forms — International clients often record it during onboarding
  • Your accountant or company secretary — They may have it on file

This takes five minutes and solves the problem about 40% of the time.

Method 2: D&B Free Lookup Tool (Free, Same Day)

D&B provides a public search tool anyone can use:

  1. Go to D&B DUNS Lookup
  2. Enter your exact business name as registered with CAC
  3. Select Nigeria as the country
  4. Add your city
  5. Review results and match to your business

Tips for better results:

  • Try variations — "Limited" vs "Ltd", with and without punctuation
  • Try your trading name if different from your registered name
  • Try your old address if you've moved
  • Try searching by just the first few words of your business name

If your record appears, your DUNS number will be visible in the search results.

Method 3: Contact D&B Support Directly (Free, 3–7 Days)

If the lookup doesn't surface your record:

  • Visit support.dnb.com
  • Submit a support request with your business name, CAC registration number, and registered address
  • D&B will search their database and respond with your DUNS details

Realistic timeline: 3–7 business days. D&B support response times for international (non-US) businesses can be slow.

Method 4: Raspib Technology Retrieval Service (From ₦300,000)

If you've tried the above and still can't locate your DUNS — or if you simply need it urgently and don't have time to chase D&B — we handle the retrieval for you.

What's included in our ₦300,000 retrieval service:

  • Full search of D&B's database using multiple identifiers (business name, CAC number, address history, director names)
  • Locate records filed under old names, previous addresses, or name variations
  • Confirm the record definitively belongs to your business
  • Deliver your DUNS number with your full D&B record details
  • Flag any issues with your record (outdated info, duplicate records, etc.)

Timeline: 2–5 working days

Why pay for retrieval?

  • You need it urgently for a deadline
  • D&B's free tools haven't returned your record
  • Your business has changed names or addresses since registration
  • The original registration was done by someone who has left your company
  • You want confirmation the record is accurate, not just the number

Why Records Are Hard to Find

Several things make DUNS retrieval tricky for Nigerian businesses:

Name variations D&B is strict about exact name matching. "ABC Solutions Limited" and "ABC Solutions Ltd" are treated as different entries. If your original application used a slightly different spelling, the standard lookup won't find it.

Address changes If your business has moved since registration, D&B's record still shows the old address. Searching with your current address won't return it.

Third-party created records D&B sometimes creates records automatically from public data sources — CAC filings, news mentions, trade directories. These records may exist under a slightly different name or with incomplete information, and the business owner may not even know they exist.

Multiple records In some cases, D&B has created more than one record for the same business. This happens when a business applied directly and D&B also created a record from a third-party source. You need to identify which is the primary record.

What Happens After We Retrieve Your DUNS

Once we locate your DUNS number and confirm the record:

  1. We deliver your 9-digit DUNS number and a summary of your current D&B record
  2. We flag any information that's outdated or incorrect
  3. If your record needs updating, we can handle that separately (see our DUNS Update Service)
  4. You can immediately use your DUNS number on proposals, vendor forms, and app store enrollments

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I have two DUNS numbers? A: Each business location gets one DUNS. If you have multiple offices or branches, each can have its own DUNS. But one legal entity at one address = one DUNS.

Q: My DUNS was registered by a consultant who no longer works with us. Can we still retrieve it? A: Yes. The DUNS belongs to your business, not the consultant. We can retrieve it using your business details. If you also need access to the D&B account to make updates, that's a separate account recovery process.

Q: What if D&B has wrong information on my record? A: We'll flag it during retrieval. Correcting it is a separate update process — see our DUNS Update Service.

Q: How do I know if I already have a DUNS number? A: Many Nigerian businesses have DUNS records they don't know about — D&B creates them automatically from public data. The free lookup at dnb.com is the quickest way to check.

Q: Is the ₦300,000 fee refundable if you can't find my DUNS? A: Contact us before paying — we'll do a preliminary check first to confirm a record exists before you commit to the service.
